Julie Christie's father was the owner of a tea plantation in Assam. They first studied in India, then at the London Central School of Speech and Drama. Christie made his debut in 1961 in the BBC - TV series A for Andromeda, in which she played the lead role of Andromeda. In November 2007, Julie Christie has married her longtime boyfriend. The Daily Mail "reported on 30 January 2008, Christie and the journalist Duncan Campbell, had been her companion for 28 years, married two months ago in India.

For more than 30 years, she supported the work of the NGO Survival International, which is committed to the protection of indigenous peoples.
