Sarah Miles started at the age of 15, studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. Her film debut was in 1962 playing with fate. Directed by Peter Glenville, she played alongside Laurence Olivier and Simone Signoret. For this work she received a nomination for the BAFTA Award in the category of most promising newcomer in a leading role. Received the award for 1963 Tom Courtenay. The actress adopted in the following years, only selected rolls of film. She received in 1964 for Harold Pinter adaptation of the play The Servant by Joseph Losey another BAFTA nomination. In 1971 she received an Oscar nomination for David Lean's Ryan's Daughter. In 1973 she played the title role in the embassy for Lady Franklin. The film won the 1973 Cannes International Film Festival.
Sarah Miles was married from 1967 to 1975 and from 1988 until his death in 1995 twice with the British playwright and screenwriter Robert Bolt.
