“Hollywood amuses me. Holier-than-thou for the public and unholier-than-the-devil in reality”

Grace Patricia Kelly who was born in Pennsylvania in November 1929, dreamed of being an actress from the time she was a child. After finishing high school in 1947, Grace Kelly decided to try her luck in the bright lights of New York. Kelly obtained modeling work and made her debut on Broadway in 1949. Despite a brief foray into television, Grace Kelly was not content with the work opportunities in New York and decided to move to Southern California in order to break into films. It was there that she appeared in her first film, “Fourteen Hours” (1951) at the age of 22.

The following year Kelly starred in the Western “High Noon” with Gary Cooper and Lloyd Bridges. which proved to be very popular. In 1953 Grace starred in “Mogambo” with Clark Gable and Ava Gardner which was regarded as one of the best films ever made by MGM. However, it was Kelly’s portrayal of Georgie Elgin opposite Bing Crosby in “Country Girl” which would immortalize her and earn her an Academy Award for Best Actress. In 1955, Grace Kelly starred in the Hitchcock film ” To Catch A Thief”opposite Cary Grant and in 1956 she starred with Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby in the musical comedy “High Society”.

Although “High Society” was very well received, this was to be the end of Grace Kelly’s acting career as upon becoming a princess following her marriage to Prince Rainier of Monaco, Kelly gave up her acting career. Grace Kelly remained in the news for the remainder of her life with her marriage and her three children until her tragic death in a car accident in 1982 at the age of 52.
