From an alleged illicit love affair with President Kennedy to winning a Golden Globe for “Some Like it Hot,” Marilyn Monroe is considered one of the all-time Classic Actresses of our time. She epitomized the term sex symbol and took the dumb blonde persona to new heights. Born Norma Jean Baker, Marilyn was one of the first actress/singer/models to be recognized on a first name-only basis. She first married James Dougherty but divorced when Marilyn chose to pursue a modeling career. She then married baseball great Joe DiMaggio, a tumultuous relationship that grabbed national headlines and sold countless gossip magazines. Before re-marrying DiMaggio in 1962, she converted to Judaism to marry playwright Arthur Miller who saw her as a “whirling light.” Marilyn died at age 36 as dramatically as she lived: was it suicide, an accidental overdose or was the star murdered?
