The scion of a Jewish immigrant family was successful actress in comedies and musicals on Broadway and was closely associated with the Actors Studio. In films since 1943, she took on roles, and that fell through the occupation as a "classic film star" shining confidence already in the young Shelley Winters under whose normal framework, such as in the Western Lady Revolver (1950).
In her mature years, winter was a popular character actress who did not shrink from unusual acting challenge. In 1972, she was on in The Poseidon Adventure with an underwater scene, which they largely mastered without a double. For this role Winters earned one of her four Oscar nominations. She received the trophy twice, for her roles in The Diary of Anne Frank (1959) and A Patch (1965).
1972 Winter had a guest in Johnny Carson's Tonight Show, a noisy, and finally physical confrontation with Oliver Reed after he had given their opinion, misogynistic remarks made by him.
Shelley Winters was successively the seller Mack Paul Mayer of Chicago, the actor Vittorio Gassman, and married to actor Anthony Franciosa († 19 January 2006). His marriage to Gassman is her daughter Victoria.
You already discovered in the 1960s, the talent of Robert De Niro and promoted him. In 1967 she was the godmother of Laura Dern, which they also promoted. Shelley Winters has published several autobiographies, in which they presented information on the highly respected show business.
The actress, who on 14 Had suffered a heart attack in October 2005, died on 14 January 2006 at the age of 85 years of heart failure at the Rehabilitation Center in Beverly Hills.
