Sigourney Weaver was born in 1949 as Susan Alexandra Weaver in New York City. Her father was in the 1950s, President of the National Broadcasting Television Network NBC, her mother is British actress Elizabeth Inglis. As a teenager, she chose the name Sigourney after a minor character (Mrs. Sigourney Howard) from F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel The Great Gatsby.

Sigourney Weaver won in 1972 at Stanford University with a degree in English in 1974 and finished her education at the Yale School of Drama, the Yale University in New Haven (Connecticut) with a Master of Fine Arts.

Her film debut Weaver 1977 (with a small role Duration: six seconds) in Woody Allen's film Annie Hall, the. In 1979 she played the lead role as Ellen Ripley in Alien, which it acquired in the three installments of the film. In 1982 she played alongside Mel Gibson in the political thriller A year in hell. In Snow Cake, 2005, the role she played an autistic woman whose daughter was killed in a traffic accident. For the TV movie based on a true story Prayers for Bobby, in which she plays a Homosexuellenaktivistin, whose son committed suicide because of his sexuality, she won the 2009, an Emmy nomination.
